At Mohawk, environmental stewardship is a top priority for everyone, every day. We believe our highly visible leadership--within an industry that relies heavily on energy, forests and water--will inspire other businesses and allow our customers to deliver a message of environmental responsibility.
Now that environmental claims are proliferating, it is easy for people to get confused about what is meaningful. Like all kinds of companies in many other industries, we can’t make our products without using natural resources. But we can make our products without using up these resources. And this is why we are so committed to transparency, partnership, and verification. We don’t make claims we can’t substantiate. We work closely with third party certifiers to give customers confidence our claims are accurate, and we publicize what we do to inform customers, and to have a positive impact on our suppliers, our industry, other manufacturers, regulating and government organizations, and beyond. At Mohawk, in everything we do, we’re simply committed to being part of the solution.
Quick Facts:

- 2003 Mohawk becomes the first paper mill to purchase wind-generated electricity for manufacturing. Mohawk purchases 100,000,000 kWh annually. This matches 100% of the electric power required for all of Mohawk’s operations in its New York and Ohio facilities. Our windpower products are certified by Green-e, the nation’s leading independent certifica tion and verification program for renewable energy products.
- March 2007, Mohawk joined the U.S. EPA Climate Leaders program to further develop greenhouse gas reduction goals. Select Mohawk products are now made carbon neutral within our production processes by offsetting thermal manufacturing emissions with VERs and matching purchased electricity with RECs from Green-e certified windpower projects.
